Kicked to the Curb by Joanna Campbell Slan Virtual Book Tour Guest Post and Giveaway

This mystery kept my attention and I genuinely loved the idea of the store and the circle of friends around Cara. This is a well-crafted cozy mystery.

  • Series: (Book #2 in the Cara Mia Delgatto Mystery Series)
  • Cozy Mystery 200 pages
Synopsis:
Cara Mia Delgatto’s cup runneth over with worries. Her ex-husband is refusing to pay their son’s college tuition, her evil sister is pulling mean pranks, and her old boyfriend has broken her heart. And that’s just the personal stuff. She’s also concerned about keeping the cash register ringing at The Treasure Chest, her retail store specializing in upcycled, recycled, and repurposed décor items with a coastal theme. The media event that Cara plans turns nasty when reporter Kathy Simmons threatens to share unsavory details from the shopkeeper’s past. Things get really dicey when Kathy mysteriously disappears. Cara’s other problems seem trivial in comparison to…a murder investigation!

Books: Bigger Is Better, Sometimes!

By Joanna Campbell Slan

When I was traditionally published, I noticed a trend. Each contract specified that my books should get shorter and shorter. When I started writing cozy mysteries, the word count numbered 85,000 to 90,000. But by the time my most recent contract came, that had been chopped to less than 75,000. The reason? Fewer words means fewer pages and a cheaper book to produce in paper.

Since then I’ve gone out on my own. Because I don’t have to worry about my publisher dictating the word count, my most recent book – Kicked to the Curb—is a whopper at 103,000 words! But my Beta Readers have told me that they love this book. The longer length is perfect for the story I tell.

I realize that not every new book I write will be, or should be, as long as this one. However, I feel good about giving my readers a thick, juicy book to sink their (metaphorical) teeth into. Considering the price is only $3.99, I think that Kicked to the Curb is a real bargain of an e-book.

As an author, I’m happy to give my readers more and more of what they want! There’s never been a better time to be a lover of books.
