Synopsis
The septuagenarian women of the Summer Ridge Bridge Club have gathered in secret late one July night to check skinny dipping off their bucket list. But as Francine observes, the jittery members seem more obsessed with body issues and elaborate preparations than actually stripping down and getting in the pool. A pungent smell emanating from the pool shed provides a perfect distraction. When a dead body flops out, it’s an answered prayer for Charlotte, since the first item on her list is to solve a murder.
Unfortunately for Charlotte and Francine, before they can discover who really killed the man, they must negotiate neighborhood tours of the crime scene, press coverage of their skinny dipping, an angry Homeowner’s Association, a disastrous appearance on Good Morning America, media offers sought by a hungry publicist, and a clever killer.

What’s On Your Bucket List?
(Tony)
In the new novel by my daughter Liz and
me, the septuagenarian women of Murder on the Bucket List are
trying to get through the strange and wonderful items on their list
but keep stumbling over dead bodies. Many people ask if we have our
own bucket lists. Liz says she thinks she’s too young, but I was
about her age when I started creating a bucket list.
It happened during a trip to paradise.
When my daughters were little, we would
travel to Florida a couple of times a year to visit my in-laws. They
had retired and left Indiana several years before Liz was born. Jim
was an avid golfer and wanted to be somewhere he could play
year-round; Marge played golf, too, but was more enthralled about
being out of the snow and cold. We’d fly into Fort Myers, they’d
pick us up, and we’d spend a week in paradise. Seriously, it was
paradise. The kids adored them, and my in-laws were marvelous hosts.
Marge, who might have been the best mother-in-law ever, was quick to
fix my favorite foods, especially lemon meringue pie. We totally and
completely unwound from the stress of our work-a-day lives. It was
then I thought, this is how I want to retire. Living in paradise.
That became my first bucket list item.
Times change, of course, and that #1
item has changed. Florida is no longer paradise. While I fully intend
to retire from my day job in town government, I don’t see us moving
anywhere. The need I had to “get away from it all” is more easily
met now that it’s just Deb and me. (And who wants to be that far
away from their grandchildren? )
Leaving Indiana for good is not going to happen.
But paradise is still on my bucket
list. It’s just that I don’t want to live there now, I want to
visit. The world is full of amazing things. Debbie and I love to see
new places, hike new paths, learn new truths, experience new wonders.
To me, this is where I find paradise. My bucket list is populated
with destinations.
What it doesn’t
have are the type of items the ladies have. I don’t need to skinny
dip, be on the front page of a major metropolitan newspaper, or have
sexy, pinup types photos taken (which happens in book #2). Those we
just made up.
Do you have a bucket list? If you do,
we’d love to hear from you about what’s on it. Please send any
items you’d love to see us explore in our tales of the Summer Ridge
Bridge Club gang. We can be reached at peronaelizabeth@gmail.com.
