EXCERPT
- Chapter 14- Captivity
Bravely,
Onyx moved over to the second cell and slowly poked his head through the door. He
was greeted with what looked like squirming mummies on gurneys against every
wall. Each one had an IV running into its left arm, from a central IV pole in
the middle of the room. Catheter tubes ran from a tiny hole in the gauze by their left hips and then ran into a bucket beside the
pole. Although the bodies were encased, the room still smelled of urine and
sweat. All of their mouths were covered, but their nostrils were left open. A
smaller tube ran into one of them. He could hear the oxygen pumping
rhythmically. Their eyes were not covered with gauze, but they were taped shut
with clear surgical tape.
Onyx
could feel the connection with these people because of the sorrow he felt, and
as the disgust gripped him, he knew they were not humans. They were all
Geminis- captured, bound, and in a prison of cloth. How long had they been
here? He tried his best not to explode and focus on getting more information,
rather than plotting how to kill the people that had done this. He saw small
clip boards on the IV poles. Each board had a name on it with a medical service
chart. There were dates and initials on a grid indicating when they had been
serviced in different categories. They kept them alive on saline and emptied
their bladders with the catheters. They forced in the oxygen through their
noses to ensure they could seal their mouths and keep them quiet. This chamber
was not sound proofed by any means.
He
knew this whole discovery needed to be taken back to the caves of the Council
for discussion. These poor things needed to be freed and could not be allowed
to continue suffering so pitifully. Their hosts had to be terribly weak and
atrophied by now. Eventually, they would die trapped in these bodies. Was the
church just trying to study them? What was the reason for this vigorous
restraint? Didn’t they want their humans back? All they had to do at this point
was release the Geminis. They would readily surrender and leave if given the
opportunity.

About the Author:
I grew up admiring my father, Barry Weinstock, as an author. He took me around the country to different places so he could research and write his Wilderness Survival books. One of his greatest works, “The Path of Power,” was written with a great medicine man, Sunbear.
When I was twelve I started hand writing novels. My first one was two thousand pages. My dad always encouraged me and would rave about my writing. He gave me the confidence I needed to keep writing and follow my dream. My daughter, who is twelve, is currently working on her first novel. I hope to continue the legacy.
