Candidate For Murder by Lauren Carr Guest post & Giveaway

Book Description:

It’s
election time in Spencer, Maryland, and the race for mayor is not a
pretty one. In recent years, the small resort town has become divided
between the local year-round residents who have enjoyed their rural way
of life and the city dwellers moving into their mansions, taking over
the town council, and proceeding to turn Deep Creek Lake into a closed
gate community—complete with a host of regulations for everything from
speed limits to clothes lines.

When
the political parties force-feed two unsavory mayoral nominees on the
town residents, Police Chief David O’Callaghan decides to make a
statement—by nominating Gnarly, Mac Faraday’s German shepherd, to run as
mayor of Spencer!

What
starts out as a joke turns into a disaster when overnight Gnarly
becomes the front runner—at which point his political enemies take a
page straight out of Politics 101. What do you do when you’re behind in a
race? Dig up dirt on the front runner, of course.

Seemingly,
someone is not content to rest with simply embarrassing the front
runner by publicizing his dishonorable discharge from the United States
Army, but to throw in a murder for good measure. With murder on the
ballot, Mac Faraday and the gang—including old friends from past
cases—dive in to clear Gnarly’s name, catch a killer, and save Spencer!

Ten Things About Lauren Carr’s Mac Faraday Mysteries You May Not Know

  1. The Mac Faraday Mysteries take place in Spencer, Maryland, which is a fictional small town located on Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland. Deep Creek Lake is a real resort town, though.
  2. Lauren Carr created the fictional town of Spencer, Maryland, after the Garrett County sheriff expressed concern about the sheriff in the first Mac Faraday mystery, It’s Murder, My Son, being a doofus. Out of respect for the real law enforcement, she made the character a police chief of a fictional small town.
  3. Mac Faraday’s mansion on Spencer Point is based on Lauren’s sister-in-law’s home located on a point of a lake in a resort town in Wisconsin.
  4. The original setting for It’s Murder, My Son, the first Mac Faraday Mystery was Pelican Lake, Wisconsin. Lauren changed the setting to Deep Creek Lake after her sister-in-law was dismayed that the murder took place in her home.
  5. Gnarly was not in the first or even second draft of It’s Murder, My Son. While Mac Faraday had a dog, it was not become an actual character until a much later draft.
  6. Gnarly was inspired by Lauren’s son’s Australian shepherd, which was given to him by a woman during halftime at a football game.
  7. There is a real Gnarly. After the success of the Mac Faraday Mysteries, Lauren got a real German shepherd and named him Gnarly.
  8. The Spencer Inn, located at the top of Spencer Mountain, is modeled after Snow Shoe, which is located in West Virginia.
  9. Archie Monday is a gourmet cook and is fearless when it comes to trying new foods—much like author Lauren Carr.
  10. Most of Gnarly’s misbehaviors are based on real-life incidents involving Lauren’s dogs or dog stories supplied to her by fans. Among those “tricks” is the opening of doors, which the real Gnarly is able to do—even if the doorknob is round!
