Chapter 1: Part I* * * Syira * * *

Snow slammed into the side of the cave, sounding like a tornado. The entire structure rumbled under the pressure of the storm. Kadeem gripped my hand tightly as we raced for the elevator shaft. Chunks of snow coming from the ceiling crashed around us. I felt a surge of energy rush through me, and in the next second, I was inside the elevator. Kadeem had teleported us out of the avalanche’s chaotic course.

Bryan and Shi dove in right after us. Pieces of the entrance to the cave came off, plowing down the mountainside.

“Hurry!” Bryan yelled to Nile and the others. Mounds of snow rained down around Nile and Symone. My stomach somersaulted. Sonar, please let them make it. Nile, Symone, and the others charged in. We huddled together in fear that we were going to be overtaken by the avalanche. The momentum of the snow caused a thunderous boom that hammered through the air. Kadeem slammed his fist into the elevator control panel. The doors shot down and we plummeted below the surface.

We all breathed a sigh of relief when the shaft came to a stop. Slowly our group crept into the corridor of the main terminal facility we were going to try to infiltrate. The opaque lighting made it harder to see.

“Anyone hurt?” Bryan asked.

We all shook our heads. As we went further in, the lighting was lambent and the hallways were wider.

“Everyone remember to follow Kadeem’s lead. He’s in charge of this mission,” Bryan stated. “Our goal is to get those codes downloaded to our files. The Sonar Surpass is coming in fast, and we don’t know how long we have before all power is lost.”

“The entrance to the cave was decimated,” I said to Bryan.

“So we’ll divert to Plan B for our escape, Syira. We’ll play it by ear, and either teleport from outside the main facility doors or from inside. So please … it’s imperative to listen for Kadeem’s orders,” Bryan told us.

“The main control area is this way,” Kadeem said, moving in that direction. We all followed close behind him. Upon arriving at a large gray door, two Polars were guarding the entrance. A woman with blonde hair blasted her male comrade through the chest. What the hell? Our group gasped, and I gawked at the blonde. The male Polar was about to shoot Conan and this woman protected him. Conan gripped a hand over his bald head. Then he beamed at the blonde. She returned his smile. Had Conan been having a secret love affair also? Their lustful gazes screamed, Kadeem’s and my forbidden love. The others were stunned, too. Everyone froze.
