Killer Pursuit by Jeff Gunhus Book Review
Synopsis of the book.
When a high-society call girl is murdered in her Georgetown home, investigators find two cameras hidden in the walls of her bedroom. One has its memory erased, presumably by the murderer. The second is connected to the Internet through an encrypted connection...and no-one knows who's on the other end.
Special Agent Allison McNeil is asked by beleaguered FBI Director Clarence Mason to run an off-the-record investigation of the murder because of the murder's similarity to a case she worked a year earlier. Allison knows the most direct path to apprehending the killer is to find the videos, but the rumors that the victim's client list may have included Mason's political enemies has her worried about the director's motives. As she starts her investigation, she quickly discovers that she's not the only one pursuing the videos. In fact, the most aggressive person racing against her might be the murderer himself.
About the author.
Jeff Gunhus is the author of thriller and horror novels for adults and the middle grade/YA series, The Templar Chronicles. The first book, Jack Templar Monster Hunter, was written in an effort to get his reluctant reader eleven-year old son excited about reading. It worked and a new series was born. His books for adults have reached the Top 100 on Amazon and have been Foreword Reviews Book of the Year Finalists.
After his experience with his son, he is passionate about helping parents reach young reluctant readers and is active in child literacy issues. As a father of five, he leads an active lifestyle in Maryland with his wife Nicole by trying to constantly keep up with their kids. In rare moments of quiet, he can be found in the back of the City Dock Cafe in Annapolis working on his next novel.
My review;
Killer Pursuit by Jeff Gunhus is another great book by this author. I have read other books by him and I found this to be one of my favorites. Special Agent Alison McNeil is a force to be reckoned with. Clarence Mason who is the FBI Director has made the right choice by asking her to go after the murderer of a call girl. She has shown in the past that she is good at this kind of criminal. In this case there is camera that was hidden in the home of the victim, so her first step is to try to find the tape. As she gets closer she finds herself in more and more danger. Who can be trusted? Will the missing tape even help solve the crime? This is a great mystery with more than one twist. I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book by Tomoson and all opinions are mine.

Description:
They
weren’t supposed to have feelings.
Metal
will Clash
In
a not-too-distance future, robots composed of metal for bones,
electric cords for veins, and synthetics for skin are now available.
For purchase. Eighteen-year-old Vienna Avery’s home is going to
change forever, now that her mom purchased an Italian Chef Robot to
cook and reside in their house.
Secrets
will Unfold
The
government claimed robots were indifferent, unthinking pieces of
metal and elastic—assistance for the help of humans. Vienna never
believed much of what the government said. The pieces didn’t always
fit. And now Vienna knows why, because she’s uncovered the
government’s secret: that robots have emotions, sucking Vienna into
the underground world of feeling, thinking, and sovereign robots.
Sparks
will Fly
Alec
Cypher is everything a robot is not supposed to be: deep, dark, and
dangerously human. And for some reason, he wants to save Vienna from
the government’s prying, vindictive eyes. Going forward, Vienna
will have to learn to trust robots and battle the growing feelings
she never thought possible . . . feelings for the green-eyed,
soul-searching robot named Alec.

Excerpt:
I
never locked eyes with a robot before.
Never.
Not
once.
I
guess I thought it would feel different. But it doesn’t. Nothing is
different. It feels the same, the same as looking into a human’s
eyes.
I
wanted to pry my eyes away but now that I’ve started, I can’t
stop staring. Even from this distance, I could tell the robot’s
eyes were a honey brown.
They
are so close to being one of us. But they can’t be. They can never
be us. Or at least, that’s what the government says.
The
robot’s indifferent gaze shifted from mine and it strode toward my
neighbor’s Lincoln Town Car. The robot’s gait caught with every
third step and the elbow twisted incongruently when it opened the car
door—the only telltale signs it wasn’t human.
This
robot had dark-brown hair, tan skin, and was dressed in a chauffeur’s
suit.
My
neighbor, Mr. Romero, waved at me as he exited the car, and I just
stood there, mouth agape and knees locked.
Mr.
Romero frowned but I couldn’t wave back. I couldn’t move. I was
frozen to that spot on my porch with my keys dangling from my fingers
and my purse sliding down my shoulder.
It
was just as the news had said. Everything was. From the eyes, to the
nose, the lips, to the hair, it all looked so real. I had never
studied a robot that wasn’t on TV; I was always too busy avoiding
them. But when they weren’t moving, when they weren’t doing
anything, when they were just standing there, they looked exactly
like people. Exactly.
Together,
they disappeared inside the house, Mr. Romero with his stout frame
and wiry black hair, and his robot chauffeur.
I
now lived next door to a robot.
The
keys felt cold in my hand, and I realized for the last several
seconds, my focus had been consumed by the now empty driveway.
Leave
it to me to do something like that.
I
opened the door and leaned against it as it clicked shut behind me.
Everything was changing. And everything would be different.
“Mom,
I’m home.” I shrugged off the door and into the family room.
“Be
right there, Vienna.”
“Don’t
worry about it,” I called back, hoping mom would leave me alone.
“How
was shopping? Find anything you liked?” Mom appeared and wiped her
hands on her paint-covered overalls. Mom was a die-hard artist. She
lived, breathed, and probably ate paint.
At
a whole head taller than me, Mom still looked great. Forty-five and
thriving was her motto. Mom and I had wispy blond hair, pale-green
eyes, and a small nose. Unlike me, her hair was cut in a bob-like
fashion, the front angled longer, reaching past her shoulders, where
mine was always in a ponytail.
I
shook off my jacket and looked up into Mom’s bright, beaming face.
“I
only went shopping,” I said, raising my eyebrows. “No need to
look that—”
“You’ll
never guess what I bought.” Mom practically sang the last word,
cutting me off.
Head
throbbing, I sucked in a deep breath and dropped my purse on the
couch. “I have absolutely no idea.” I wondered how mom would
react if she knew Mr. Romero had bought a robot.
“They’ve
had nothing but good reviews.” Mom nodded, following behind me as I
headed toward my room. “And you and your father are going to love
him.”
I
rubbed my temples. “I’m sure we will.” How could we not get
excited about Mom’s latest painting gadget? “What does this one
let you do?”
Paint
with two brushes at the same time?
Mom
darted in front of me, and spread her arms to block me from going any
further.
“What’s
going on?” I looked from side-to-side.
“I
named him Robotatouille.” Mom nodded as if that solved everything.
“I’m
sorry?” I shook my head. What in the heck was Mom talking about?
“You named what Robot . . .” My breath caught in my throat. My
stomach flipped. “You . . . you did what?” I repeated.
Mom’s
eyes lit up and suddenly, it was like all the energy in my body had
been stolen from me, sucked out, leaving me dry and empty.
“N-N-N-o,”
I breathed.
Mom
wouldn’t—
“Everyone’s
getting one,” Mom said.
My
legs shook.
“Did
you know Mr. Romero just bought one yesterday?” Mom asked, face
glowing while it felt like mine had lost all of its blood. “And
you’re going to love him. Look.” Mom winked at me and stepped
back to pull a sandy-blond brown-eyed twenty-something-year-old man
from behind the kitchen wall.
I
couldn’t breathe.
Air
was trapped in my body, as I stood there, gaping, into this
man-robot-thing’s eyes.
Brown
eyes. Sandy-blond hair.
I
jerked backward and stumbled into the coffee table.
The
robot was right in front of me.
No.
Freaking.
Way.

While
horseback riding in the English countryside, sisters, Electra and
Emily Crippen find themselves trapped in a tear in time. Thrown back
to 1357 England and caught by a local noble, they are in a place that
is home but as frightening and unfamiliar as an alien world would be.
With no idea how the tear in time came about, the one thing they do
know is: they must stay together and stay near to where the event
took place in hopes of discovering the way back to their modern life.
That certain need to stay together is the first certainty taken from
them when one sister is forced to remain in England and one is sent
miles away to Wales by royal order.
There
is one other hope for help the sisters don’t know exists. It’s
Electra’s lover, Roger Marchand. A time traveler himself, he never
told her of his past. When he realizes what has happened to the
sisters, he enlists the help of a scientist friend to help him open
the suspected passageway through time. Any effort to save Electra and
Emily will likely cost him his life. This was the time Roger came
from, a time when his country, France, was at war with England. If he
is discovered on English soil while searching for the sisters, he
will either be killed or taken prisoner of war. Any risk is worth
saving the life of the woman he loves.
Excerpt
They
walked at a fast pace for fifteen minutes. They came to where a
service road built during World War II intersected with the Old Roman
Road. Instead mature oaks and alder dotted what should've been the
single-lane service road. Gone too was the old sign indicating the
direction of the wartime airfield abandoned in 1946.
"I'm
afraid, El. Nothing is what or where it should be. Things are the
same but different."
"I'm
afraid too. I don't understand any of this. Like you said, it's all
the same in the main, but the details are all wrong. It's as though
we're part of an artist's rendition of this place, but he erased
Roger and the horses, and the picnic part. Instead he drew in foliage
and kept us."
Emily
tried her cell phone again with no luck. "Maybe we should wait
here. I'm certain Roger will come for us. He's probably already
headed this way. Don't you think?"
Electra
didn't want to tell her what she feared. She had no idea what was
happening to them or what they needed to do, but in her heart, she
feared if he was coming, he'd be there by now.
"No,
I don't think he's on the way," Electra said, truthfully. Emily
would figure it out soon enough. "I don't see how staying in one
place is better than keeping on toward the house."
"And
if your imaginary artist erased the house?"
"Then
we'll work out our next move."
They
continued on to where Esme and Stephen's house stood or should've
stood. Their cottage dated back to Tudor times as did the stable and
other outbuildings. They'd survived hellacious storms, German bombs,
and natural decay for 500 years.
The
sisters froze at the sight. None of the buildings were there, only
short stone fences sectioning off various sheep pastures that
occupied the land.

The Lion Comic Book Hero Bible by Siku, Richard Thomas & Jeff Anderson Book Tour and Book Review
The Lion Comic Book Hero Bible Siku & Richard Thomas & Jeff Anderson A stunning new comic book version of the Bible now given the superhero treatment by the team behind The Lion Graphic Bible and The Manga Bible The story of the Bible is a unique tale of origins and cosmic powers; of the ageless battle between good and evil; of human potential and human treachery; and of a Messiah--a savior for the world. This is indeed the stuff that graphic novels are made of. Superheroes are the biggest comic genre of all, with many heroes having their origins in biblical characterization and imagery. This is the first Bible retelling to engage with and challenge the superhero genre. The Lion Comic Book Hero Bible is a dynamic expression of the Bible's depth and power, produced in the style of Marvel Comics. You've heard of Spiderman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Now meet Earthman, Lawman, Warrior Man, and many others. With dynamic illustration using a range of styles, Siku (Old Testament) and Jeff Anderson (New Testament) bring the Bible stories alive for a new and graphically sophisticated generation. My review;
This is a really beautiful illustrated book about the Bible. All of the Bible stories and the people in the Bible are so eye catching that the reader will be entranced from the beginning of the book. These are the kind of Heroes that we want our children to relate to. These are the stories that they will not forget after they read this book. I really love this book. This book by Siuku, Richard Thomas & Jeff Anderson is a beautiful addition to any personal or public library. I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book for a review and all opinions are mine

Excerpt One:
We walked directly across the hall, to a second door leading
to a second warehouse. It was like those Russian Matryoshka dolls that get
pulled apart to reveal smaller dolls nesting inside. A warehouse within a
warehouse.
Nick took me to the door and knocked.
My previous work took place down the long hall to the left,
in a room around the corner in the rear of the building, and I looked over my
shoulder to where I normally worked with Becka. She was nowhere to be seen.
Whatever Nick was about to show me was entirely new, but I had a very good idea
of exactly what was behind that thick door.
A sliding viewing port opened, and a set of eyes looked out.
The viewing port closed, and the sound of a heavy lock clacked from the hollows
of the metal door. A moment later it opened and we stepped inside, shielding
our eyes from the glaring light.
“Holy h*ll,” I muttered, stepping into the room. The
temperature was hot in there, muggy, and my eyes were practically blinded from
the succession of thousand-watt high pressure sodium light bulbs lining the
ceiling. A sea of tall marijuana plants filled the room, all set in carefully
arranged rows, some attached to an elaborate hydroponic system. The smell of
fresh marijuana was as thick as soup. A silver tray holding orange slices and a
knife sat on a table by the door.
“So.” I turned to Nick. “What exactly do you need me to do?”

Devastated by an error which
caused an infant’s death, Lilly becomes deathly ill and collapses from loss of
blood. She wakes up from emergency surgery with mental telepathic powers.
When an extraterrestrial ship
crash-lands near her home, she investigates and happens upon a survivor who
needs her help. Motivated by guilt-ridden feelings over the baby, she rescues
him, catapulting herself into a war between two alien armies.
Now the renegade soldiers are on
her trail and have marked her for death.
Excerpt
In the woods,
she coughed her way through a maze of twisted oaks. She hacked and gagged on
the stink of sulfur; the smell was worse around the ship, which lay between
shattered aisles of trees it had destroyed in its descent. Flames flickered
from its open hatchway. The ship itself lay canted to one side with air bubbles
bursting all around it. On its left side, pieces of metal scattered in the
grass. Shining her light on the ship, Lilly happened upon warped metal strips
protruding over one side. Underneath the ship, glowing embers leaped and
twirled in a blue fiery dance. Face dripping with sweat, she shot glances right
and left. Where are the firemen? The police? My neighbors? Enormous Christmas
ornaments like this don’t crash and burn every day. Surely either radar or
other scanner devices had detected this.
Leaves crunched
to her right, followed by a scraping of branches. Lilly charged into the brush,
panting gasps escaping her lips. Her flashlight played over the grass and
bushes, for without her light, she couldn’t see to navigate in the dark. Her
foot tapped against something—a shiny metal helmet rolled under a shrub. The
branches separated. Lilly looked in and screamed.
A gloved hand
reached for the helmet. The owner of that hand stepped from its hiding place,
put its helmet on, and stared at Lilly with glowing red eyes. Dressed in a lime
green spacesuit, it stood about her height. Its bald head, thin lips, and
masculine features made it look like a male human, but the pointed ears and
flattened nose with nostrils like tiny slits defined him as extraterrestrial.
His jagged teeth chattered. He trembled
like an electrified wire.
Lilly screamed
again. “Get out of here,” she shouted. “Go home!”
