Footprints in the Frosting
by Laura Pauling

What a wonderful read by a new author ( for me )…
~Bab’s Book Bistro
This fun fast moving book will bring humor and wittiness and hours of great reading…
~Shelley’s Book Case
Fun for all, with a cute budding romance, some odd and endearing characters, and a mystery that’s not easily solved, I recommend this to all cozy fans.

Ms. Pauling did a wonderful job of writing an intriguing and engaging mystery, which led to a surprise ending.
~Lisa K’s Book Reviews
I never guessed who the killer was. I was a bit surprised at one twist with the reveal..but you will have to read the book to find out more about that.
~Storeybook Reviews
I really enjoyed Footprints in the Frosting – in fact I read it in an afternoon.
~Kaisy Daisy’s Corner
It is fun, light cozy mystery. I like the characters and want to see more of them and see them grow.
~readalot
This is a quick read, just right for the beach. Characters are interesting and easy to keep straight – my favorite is crazy Charlene and her conniving ways of helping with the mystery and matchmaking.
~Christa Reads and Writes
A comedic cozy in a small town setting, Footprints in the Frosting by Laura Pauling is full of colorful characters, a cute little “crime hound” and plenty of laughs. The first book in a new series, Footprints in Frosting is lighthearted and the perfect beginning for the Holly Hart character.
~Queen of All She Reads
FootprintsSynopsis:
Cheesecake, Love, and Murder!
It’s the Grand Opening for Holly Hart’s new business, Just Cheesecake. When footprints in the frosting lead to a body facedown in one of her cheesecakes, Holly becomes a prime suspect.
With her opening day delayed, Holly deals with a nosy no-good reporter and the local cop, the handsome Officer Trinket, as she puts her sleuthing skills to the test to save her business and her name. With the help of her dog, Muffins, she needs to find the real murderer, before the killer looks to frost someone else.

Guest Post,

Why write a cozy mystery?

I was recently asked this question. Why write a cozy mystery? It didn’t take me long to find the answer. I’ve been reading mysteries my entire life, starting with Nancy Drew and Agatha Christie to the more recently published cozy mysteries. But my reading doesn’t end there. I also love to read and watch romantic comedies. I enjoy stories that don’t delve into graphic sex or gory murder scenes but focus on the mystery, the witty dialogue and the relationship between characters, all with a dash of humor.

I enjoy the mystery. I enjoy the puzzle solving. I enjoy a bit of romance. I enjoy humor.

So in answer to that question I had to ask myself another question. Why did it take so long for me to write a cozy mystery?

My Circle of Spies Series and the Prom Impossible Series both involve a bit of mystery and humor, even if they aren’t directly classified as mystery. My Heist Series, the first one based on the Gardner Museum Heist, is a time travel mystery, though a bit darker it presents my answer to the unsolved mystery of the missing paintings.

I wasn’t sure how I would react to writing a cozy, but I soon grew to love the characters and the mystery. In the Holly Hart Cozy Mystery Series, I’ve published Footprints in the Frosting and Deadly Independence, but I’ve written the first four in the series, and I’m having a blast.

So, the answer is often times we write what we love to read.

What do you love about cozy mysteries?
