  3. Did you know modern Halloween is a Christian invention? I have come to find many do not so I trying to spread history! :) Halloween was inspired by a few pagan celebrations and as Christianity came in contact with these cultures they merged together. The result was All Saints Day in which many would wear masks to hide from spirits. Later only a few people wore the masks and it was their job to go around to everyone's home and collect offers to bring back to village's grave site. It was various food items that the relatives enjoyed; just like Dia de los Muertos. Anywho some travelers who had no money but were hungry saw this at twilight and quickly made some masks and went door to door for food. The idea of the masked ones coming to your door is that they are not your uncle Bob; they are now a messenger of good will. So when handing over your offerings you do not speak to them the masked ones as familiars.

  4. So anyways that is how these dudes were able to get away with it. They ate all the offerings and people quickly found out bc the real masked one's would come by and the residents would say they already gave the offerings. So through the years some kids decided to play the same trick bc they probably thought it was funny. The adults of caught cause the kids are noticeably short but thought it was cute so they would give them some sweats; usually a cookie. Then give the real offerings to the real collectors. It caught on within the years and so it became expectant for all the youngsters to suddenly by gone on All Saints Day and for everyone to make sweets and pass then to the fake masks. :) This is were we get dressing up as something else= the masks and the trick or treating aspect= the grumpy neighbor who did not give out sweets got pranks played on them that night and they could not really ever catch whose kid did what because they were wearing masks.
