~Shelley’s Book Case
Captain Shelby story draws you into the story very easily. It also weaves back and forth into history of one character than another as they merge together. It is dramatic, (has) action and romance as they seek to make a better future for themselves.
~readalot
Captain Shelby has something for just about everyone. There is romance between people, as well as between people and the sea. There is adventure. There are thrills and chills. And there is the sea, vast and eternal, unable to be fully known or understood. But while reading may not be the most active of pursuits, our imaginations can stretch to fill the greatest voids. And we learn something new.
~Back Porchervations
Readers who enjoy history, rich description, and eloquent language will enjoy this story.

Synopsis
There are places even the sea cannot go…
In coastal Denmark, a young man named Nereus builds a longship and leaves at age eighteen to discover a new, enigmatic land. Faced with unimaginable obstacles, he crosses the North Atlantic, only to be captured by the Skraelings, the Inuit indigenous people who seek revenge on all settlers because of a “Great Red Man” who murdered many of their family members.
Many years later, Nereus is hired by a group of Irish settlers who are fleeing the tyranny of King Henry VIII, and he takes them across the North Atlantic to the Newfound Land. A fierce battle ensues against the sea, the Little Ice Age, and the vicious Skraelings.
When Nereus falls in love with Laura Hodges, fiancĂ©e to the group’s leader, William Brockelby, he becomes embroiled in a dangerous love triangle…until the formidable mystery surrounding Captain Nereus H. Shelby is finally revealed.

Interview with The author Jesse Giles Christiansen, Thank you very much

What are your thoughts on e-books?

I think that eBooks are only the beginning of 21st century publishing, and that authors need to embrace them if they want to survive. I’m proud of my publisher, Imajin Books, and its owner, Cheryl Kaye Tardif, for embracing this wave; it’s one of the key reasons my novel, PELICAN BAY, has sold almost 2,000 copies in just over a year. I think it’s a sign of more innovative things to come. However, to be afraid that print will disappear is like fearing bread will somehow stop being bread.

Are they good or harmful to authors?

I think that eBooks allow authors to reach readers more quickly and widely than ever before. The only way this could be a bad thing is if authors neglect the inexorable joy of print, book signings, etc, for just eBooks. A writer can potentially make a living on eBooks, but they would miss so much if they did. I think many fear that eBooks hurt the sales of paperbacks, but that just isn’t the case. Those who love print are still going to buy print. I’ve found that hardcore readers read their Kindles while out and about, and then paperbacks when they get home. Also, if they truly love a story, they’ll often buy both. We need to keep writing great stories, and let the publishing arena work itself out. My publisher, Imajin Books, among other things, taught me to never be afraid of change. Publishing is in great flux right now. And that’s good.

Which do they personally prefer, print or e-book?

That’s a tough one to answer without intensive current market study. I sell a lot of eBooks, but when I put a picture of a signed paperback on social media, readers go nuts. Were I to hazard a guess, in the last ten years the scales are moving to balance out anytime. The more ways we can reach readers the better. I don’t see anyone burning books because they have a Kindle. LOL
