He let out a startled chuckle. “Julie honey, you must have me confused with somebody else. I’m the most easygoing man you’ll ever meet.”

“Oh please.” She stalked to the kitchen, started sweeping up cookie crumbs. “Anyway, it’s dark out, and it’s snowing, and it’s Friday night. It’s too late to go looking at condos. You can go home now.”

He didn’t want to go home. He wanted to stay here, with her. But for once in his silver-tongued life, words failed him. He couldn’t summon the magic that might persuade her to share a meal with him, if not her bed.

He stared into the fire, dwelling on the irony. He’d finally found a woman who wasn’t impressed by his MD, and she didn’t want anything to do with him.
