    Author Heather Manley, N.D. I have always been passionate about healthy foods and exercising. Growing up in Toronto, Canada I would exhaust my allowance at the health food store and write school papers on spices and herbs. It was no wonder I found myself studying biology at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. I loved animals as well so I initially focused on wildlife conservation and animal biology, however, with some exposure to naturopathic medicine, this health care philosophy rang true for me. I switched to pre-med and I graduated in 1993. I earned my doctorate at the from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon before moving with my family to Hawaii where I became licensed and continue to practice today. Everything I learned in medschool came into fruition when my children were born. I realized the importance of teaching them, by example, about healthy food and lifestyle. Telling them what to eat was not enough, so I created and wrote educational adventure stories that explain the physiological systems in the body. Not only did my kids love the engaging and interactive stories but so did their friends. I love seeing kids have fun learning to understand their bodies and how food helps them run faster and be smarter. My focus is on preventative health. I am passionate about encouraging families to seek the value of a simple lifestyle and offering tools to assist them at being proactive and confident in their daily living. I am constantly inspired seeing people make positive changes in their lives. With my website, I am excited to reach more families in a way that will manifest healthy living.

Our Tag Sale Furniture for Our Homeschooling !!!

As I wrote earlier we went to a tag sale last Saturday and these are a few of our finds before we paint them. This is the beautiful desk we found for Sissy for $12. It is a light pink and if  anyone knows Sissy  they know  it has to be bubblegum pink!

 

 

 

 

 

 

I can't wait to see it finished !!

 

 

 

This is a picture of a gorgeous shelf unit. It has 2 doors and two beautiful shelves inside. We are not sure if we will paint it white or where we are going to use it, but we fell in love with it for $4.

 

 

I love it more every time I look at it.

 

 

This is the bookcase on wheels that we got for $5.

 

 

 

 

It is a little blurry. We are going to paint it white and be able to wheel it out when we need it and roll out of the way when are finished.

This is a picture of a small bench big enough for 2 that we are going to put in the foyer. You cannot see it but if you look close on the upper right you can see a pole. This actually has hooks at the top for coats.  Another find at $4.

 

 

 

If you look at the top left  corner you can see a deacons bench with storage that was $5.

 

This is a child's desk. We are pretty sure it will be Bobo's.

 

 

 

 

 

Bobo has about 3 desks to choose from. Daddy's or Mommy's when they were in school or this one. We'll let you know his choice, but who could pass this up for $4.?

 

We cannot believe all of the furniture we were able to find!  We cannot wait until we have painted them and they are all ready to be used.  Nana

About the Author:

Born in Sweden in the early 1970's, Maria showed a large interest for books at an early age. Even before she was able to read or write, she made her mom staple papers together into booklets she filled with drawings of suns and planets. She proudly declared them, "The Sun Book." They were all about the sun. She also claimed, to her mother's horror, that her being on Earth was a big mistake and that her alien family would come and bring her home at any moment. This never happened, but both the interest in space and the passion for bookmaking stayed with her.

As an adult Maria's creativity got an outlet through playing bass in a number of rock bands, and through writing technical manuals and making web pages for various companies and organizations. She did write drafts for a few novels, but the storytelling muse was mostly satisfied through role playing online on Myspace. It was here, while writing stories together with people from around the globe, she stumbled onto Mike. They started talking out of character, and she moved over to Florida to him late 2008. Today the two are married and live in the Tampa Bay area with three rescue dogs.

Besides writing and playing bass, Maria enjoys driving off-road, archery, and Tameshigiri.
