About

"Shawn Smucker enchants with a deftly woven tale of mystery and magic that will leave you not only spellbound but wanting more."--Billy Coffey, author of There Will Be Stars

It was the summer of storms and strays and strangers. The summer that lightning struck the big oak tree in the front yard. The summer his mother died in a tragic accident--and young Samuel Chambers would have done anything to turn back time. Even today, he can hardly believe it all happened . . .

Prompted by three strange carnival fortune-tellers and the surfacing of his mysterious and reclusive neighbor, Sam begins his search for the Tree of Life--the only thing that could possibly bring his mother back.

His quest to defeat death will entangle him and his best friend Abra in an ancient conflict, forcing Sam to grapple with an unwelcome question.

Could it be possible that death is a gift?

"Neil Gaiman meets Madeleine L'Engle. I read it in two days!"--Anne Bogel, Modern Mrs. Darcy

In The Stars (Amber Reed Mystery) by Zanna Mackenzie

In The Stars (Amber Reed Mystery)
by Zanna Mackenzie

Danger and romance heat up the pages of this intriguing mystery.
~Laura’s Interests
Amber is a great heroine. She is very loyal to her friends, as evidenced by her undertaking to help out in the investigation into the murder of her college-boyfriend-turned-movie-heartthrob (Ennis’s) brother (Joel), even though it initially is out of her comfort zone and eventually downright dangerous!
~Back Porchervations
I was very entertained by this story. The mystery was very well written, the characters are very engaging (their romance is G-rated) and there are several hilarious moments.

About the Author
I live in the UK (Derbyshire/ Leicestershire border) with my husband, 5 dogs, a vegetable patch that’s home to far too many weeds and an ever expanding library of books waiting to be read
Being a freelance writer and editor of business publications is my ‘day job’ but, at every opportunity, I can be found scribbling down notes on scenes for whatever novel I’m working on. I love it when the characters in my novels take on minds of their own and start deviating from the original plot.
I enjoy walking the dogs, gardening and reading.

Descended from angels and demons, Merges have the innate ability to manipulate the elements as well as bring the past to the present through dreams.

After meeting Christopher Laboure on her first day back at Agnaru High, Catherine learns that the arrogant but heavenly-looking boy is a Merge—like herself. But unlike Catherine, Christopher is a Seraph, a Merge who controls the fire beads.

When a heated kiss goes wrong, Christopher finds out that Catherine is wearing the Stella Maris—the water rosary his grandfather wants to destroy.

Along with its owner.

STELLA MARIS will transport you into a realm where nothing is what it seems and everything holds hidden danger.

Her eyes widened. She quickly backed up into the locker, fear colouring her expression. I knew why. The fire inside of me had lit up my eyes, turning them from brown to red. I clenched my hands into fists, willing them to change back, the flames already trying to burst forth. But it wouldn’t stop, my panic and hers now fueling the fire. ~Chris.

Excerpt 1

Milly turned her attention back to one of the most famous men in Scottish history. A man, as it turns out, that kept looking at her with a great deal of interest. And not the sort that said he was overly concerned about the battle, but more so how attached her and Adlin might really be.
“Och, the things ye never see coming,” Adlin muttered under his breath as he stood. “William, if ‘twould not be a bother, Mildred and I would like to take shelter soon and rest for the eve.”
She frowned at Adlin. “We would?”
“Aye.” He downed the last of his whisky then held out his hand to her while he spoke to William Wallace. “I’m sure you ken we’re weary. If you can spare a tent, I’ll do my own hunting and see Mildred is well cared for.”
William’s brows rose. “Do ye not mean ‘Milly’ then, Adlin?”
Mildred crossed her arms over her chest, ignored Adlin’s hand and gave him an ‘at least he can get my name right’ look.
Adlin’s jaw clenched, and she swore she saw a teeny, tiny vein throb in his left temple as he tried to play it cool. “Aye, Milly.” Though he seemed jovial enough, she didn’t miss the challenge in his eyes when they met hers. “I grow weary and must rest so that I can assist my countrymen on the morrow. Should I send Blair or Aðísla to see you safely to sleep when you’re ready?”
Milly wanted to smack him upside the head, but they both knew she was not going to let him leave without her. It wasn’t that she felt unsafe with William, just she felt safer with Adlin. She would love to stay here for hours and learn as much as she could from William, maybe even enjoy the way he looked at her, but not without Adlin. He was her safety net.
The only one she trusted to get her home.
The only one she suspected knew how.
Or so she kept telling herself as she stood and smiled at William. “Thank you so much for…” she shook her head and eyed the maps, then him. “For trusting me even if you were trying to use me.”
“Och, lass, ‘tis not as bad as that.” He stood so swiftly, his height so imposing, that she nearly stumbled back had he not caught her. Milly’s mouth went dry as William’s arm came around her lower back and he again brought the back of her hand to his lips before his eyes dropped to her ring. “Might ye remember that ‘twas the gem and ye that first caught my interest, Milly. Not what ye could tell me of the future.”
“I know.” And she did. “But I have to…”
Suddenly, though he had simply rested his hand on the table, Milly felt Adlin all around her. His varied but strong emotions. His humor at her gall. His jealousy at the look of desire in William’s eyes. His anger that another man was laying a finger on her. His inner wisdom as he tried to keep things in perspective and measure out their situation in its entirety.
When wind rushed through the tent and maps scattered everywhere, she glanced over her shoulder into his eyes and saw something profound. For a flicker of a moment, his eyes shone bright blue, and she saw him. The real him. Who he was on the inside. A man she had known so well.
A blink later, however, he was gone.
Or was he?
“Might we be given some shelter then, William?” Adlin said softly, his eyes never leaving hers.
William remained cordial and if she wasn’t mistaken, a bit flirtatious as he responded to Adlin but kept his eyes on her. “Aye, of course. I’ll see Milly well cared for…” His eyes drifted over her head to Adlin. “Both of ye that is.”
“Good then, my friend.” Adlin nodded, took her hand and pulled her out of William’s arms. “’Tis much appreciated.”
William’s eyes lingered on her for a moment before he said, “Come along then,” and strode out of the tent.

Milly narrowed her eyes when the corner of Adlin’s mouth tilted up, he winked then pulled her after him. Hell, he knew exactly what he was doing, and she would bet he could anticipate and get his way every time no matter the circumstance. She almost wondered as they followed William if he hadn’t somehow manipulated the situation from the very moment they walked into William’s tent. Because wasn’t she now willingly, for her own safety, agreeing to sleep in Adlin’s tent?

Excerpt from PRINCE OF FOOLS . . .
"House of Terriot" Book 3
By Nancy Gideon

Amber buffed the bar top to a mirror-like shine, motions brisk, leaning into the job with a fierce concentration. A thankless job because no matter how glossy she made it, the underlying scars and countless rings would soon reappear to spoil the perfect look she tried to maintain. Frederick Terriot was like that surface. Though dazzled by the shine, she knew what lay beneath. No matter how hard she worked to change that fact, the damage had already been done, the flaws she tried to overlook forever marring what she longed to embrace.
Rico was a dark storybook prince to her Cinderella barmaid. Behind that careless grin and sad eyes lay what his clan made him: Rich, deadly, proud, thoughtless as well as vulnerable, and as far above her and her dreams as his soaring mountaintop to her bayou. Men like Frederick Terriot didn’t truly see females like her, not as equals, not as feeling, wanting, sharing partners. He used them for the moment to fill a need, not a permanent void, not because he was cruel or insensitive, but because of who he’d been raised to be.
And that would never, ever change, no matter what she hoped, no matter what those soft, seducing lips might promise.

Her heart carried more wounds than her body, her mind not quite as many as her soul, yet still, foolishly, she might have taken a chance on this once in a lifetime prince if she were the only one at risk.  But she had more to protect than just herself.

About the Author:

Nancy Gideon is the award-winning bestseller of over 60 romances ranging from historical, regency and series contemporary suspense to dark paranormal, with a couple of horror screenplays tossed into the mix, and is currently testing the “Hybrid author” waters.

Under her own name, she’s a top 100 Amazon bestseller with her “By Moonlight” dark shape-shifter series and is also listed on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) for collaborating on Indie horror films In the Woods and Savage with screenwriting and ADR script credits, and a small role as “bar extra” she likes to boast about. Writing as Dana Ransom, she’s a “Career Achievement for Historical Adventure” award winner with books published in Romanian, Italian, Russian, Danish, Dutch, Portuguese, French, German, Icelandic and Chinese. Writing historicals as Rosalyn West, she’s a HOLT Medallion winner and she’s also penned regencies as Lauren Giddings. Many of her older titles (from the ‘80s and ‘90s) have been or are soon being reissued.

A prolific writer, Nancy attributes her creative output, which once peaked at seven novels in one year, to her love of history and a gift for storytelling, also crediting a background in journalism and OCD.
