Of Silver and Beasts Cover reveal & Giveaway!!!

Of Silver and Beasts (A Goddess Wars Novel)
Release Date: June 1, 2013
Genre: New Adult Dark Fantasy
Cover Reveal Organized by: YA Bound
Cover Designed by: Steven Novak

Summary from Goodreads:
In the sand-covered queendom of Cavan, the goddess once saved a young Kaliope’s life, preventing the mercury her father attempted to hide in her blood from reaching her heart. Now, a cybernetic clamp filters it, but the silver streaks swirling faintly beneath her skin are a constant reminder that she’s different.

When nineteen-year-old Kaliope is chosen as head of the Nactue Guard, she becomes the sworn protector to her empress. In the midst of an invasion on a neighboring land, Kaliope is placed in charge of guarding Prince Caben, the last heir to his kingdom. But when they’re attacked by the feared Otherworlders, Caben and Kaliope are abducted and taken below to a realm where they must fight for their life in a caged arena.

Kaliope struggles to protect her princely charge, keeping him and herself alive while battling inhumanly opponents, and trying to save the stolen, sacred relic that will restore her empress’s life force and all of Cavan. And if she can somehow awaken the goddess within her, she may save what’s most important.

***Excerpt***

I open my mouth to say something comforting, but I’m unsure of what. In this moment, I’m reminded that I know little about him. Other than the sarcasm and desire to understand nothing of my queendom, he hasn’t allowed me past the surface. But then, I have my own walls, hiding things I’d never want him or any other to know. And I understand that need to hide them. You can’t trust any “Caben…” I start, but still can’t find the right words. He lowers his hand from his face, never taking his eyes off the glinting water top. “You’re right,” he finally says. “Let’s find the access to Lilly’s section.” A hollow pang hits my chest, and I’m not sure why. Something in his voice sounds lost, broken. I imagine the gears around my heart spinning faster, trying to keep up with my racing heart. When he sidesteps me, I reach out and grab his arm. “Caben, I didn’t mean—” “It’s fine, Kal,” he snaps. “We have work to do.” “No, I’ve said something to offend you.” I drop my hand, but keep close to him, not allowing him to leave my side. Goddess, trying to understand the male brain is harder than anything in protector training. I’ve heard people say that you have to tip-toe around a woman’s emotions, but a man’s ego is every bit as fragile, if not more so. He releases a heavy breath through his nose and walks back to the pool. He sits down along the edge and rolls up his pants, then slips off his boots. “I honestly don’t think Bax or his goons will be returning tonight.” He sinks his bare feet into the water and sighs. Glancing at the back of the cave, I plant my hands on my hips. We don’t have time for indulgencies, but the prince is still my charge. If it were my empress, I’d give her anything she’d ask for. Allow her as much time as she needed to collect herself. I have to watch over his mental state as well as protect him, so I try to push the pending need to find Lilly aside and sit down next to him. “Here,” he says, turning his hand out near my crossed feet. “You have to feel this.” A smile tugs at the corner of my mouth. “I can remove my own—” “Have you never been pampered a day in your life?” he asks, lifting an eyebrow. “I know that the Nactue are fierce and will put a hurt on any man for touching them. But try to relax.” “Is that the rumor in Perinya?” “What?” I bite my lip, suddenly regretting my blurt. “Nothing. Never mind.” From the corner of my eye, I see his lips pucker into a pinched smile, as if he’s trying not to. “Ah,” he says, like he’s made some great universal connection. “Well, there are many whisperings about the Nactue. Some I dare not repeat for fear I’d leave here missing a limb, but that’s one, yes.” He takes my booted foot and begins to unlace it. “I’ve heard that the empress’s protectors are untouchable—forbidden to give themselves to men. And that they’ll snap a man’s neck just for making an advance.” My mouth drops open. Appalled, I counter, “That’s not true.” “All right,” he says, as if he hasn’t just insulted my very existence. “It’s only rumors. Things men jaw about in pubs. The unattainable woman is a fantasy, Kal. Don’t be offended.” “Unattainable?” I grit my teeth, trying to maintain my composure. “Tell me, prince. Do men in your country just go around bedding every woman they can in order to keep them compliant?” I shake my head. “If their fantasy is a woman that would have nothing to do with them, it seems to me it’s their way of feeding their egos after being rejected.” His eyes widen. “No! How does your brain come up with these—” He bites off his words, his lips thin as he presses them together. “Look, it was a joke.” I nod, many times. “Another joke. I’m glad that our hard work and sacrifice is amusing to the men of Perinya.” Caben lets out another sigh and slowly pulls off my boot. His warm fingers skim my calf as he inches up my pant leg. “Just stick your foot in,” he says, then adds lower, “while I stick mine in my mouth.” one. Unexpectedly, I laugh. “At least it’s now clean,” I say. “Would you like some help getting it to your face?”

100 Ways to Save and Grow Your Money by Peter Sorrells Book Review

What a great book, 100 Ways to Save and Grow Your Money Financial Fitness for Regular People by Peter Sorrells. This is the kind of book that everyone in today's world, struggling to save money and provide for their family needs to read. A book that is quick to read in regular simple language is a much needed find. In fact, that is just what the the title states "Financial Fitness for Regular People"
Everyday people are losing their jobs, their homes and more. These are 10 chapters and inside of each chapter is another 10 ideas. One of the ideas to think about is  how much you will really pay in interest when you use your credit card and pay only minimum payments.
This is not just for adults but also for our children to start when they are young. Some of these ideas may have been around for years but this is explained in a way that most people will be able to carry out. I really enjoyed this book and the information that it told about. I would happily recommend this book to anyone whether rich or poor, young or old. I was given this book by the author for the purpose of a review, but all opinions are 100% my own.

Piczzle Photo Puzzles Review and Giveaway!!

Picture Puzzles are fun because you can turn your picture into puzzle.

Piczzle Photo Puzzles are the cutest thing I have ever seen. It was really funny when I got this and Sissy ran and put it in her favorite box with the rest of her puzzles. She was really upset when I told her that we were going to make it with her. The biggest problem I had was which picture to make into a puzzle. Their website is one of the easiest I have ever ordered on! They walk you through the process which takes almost no time.
Piczzle Photo Puzzles on Facebook are great because they are made with only quality items. I really cannot stand it when I get a puzzle and it doesn't stay together. Not with this puzzle! It was easy to do and the pieces fit together beautifully. I am so excited that I am going to get another for others in the family. It would make a beautiful gift and memory for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, Valentine's Day and more, the list goes on and on.
Piczzle Photo Puzzles on Youtube are fun to watch and see someone put their puzzle together and then want to get one for anyone they can think of. I was given a Piczzle Photo Puzzle to review. All opinions are my own. The best news is that they are giving one away on this blog for one of my readers. Thanks Pizzle Photo Puzzles. I love your pictures made into puzzles.

Shattered by Dani Pettrey Book Review

I was very excited to read Shattered by Dani Pettrey. I had heard a lot about this book and I was interested to see what it was about.  Piper Mckenna lives in Yancy, Alaska with her sister Kayden. One night they are awakened by Piper's dog Aurora letting them know that there was someone in their house. They quietly moved down the stairs where Piper turned on the switch. Neither one of them was prepared for what they saw. Piper's brother Reef was standing there with blood all over him! When Piper tries to convince him to let her get their  brother Cole for help Reef would not let her, believing that no one would believe that
when he found the woman she was already dead.  Deputy Landon Grainger has loved the Mckennas like they were family, especially Piper, but he has to do his job. Landon's sheriff has decided that he wants this investigation over and done with as soon as possible. The problem is that the the evidence points to Reef.

Piper realizes that she if she wants her brother to be cleared of this murder then she will have to do it herself. Landon in turn, knows that it will be up to him to protect Piper from the danger that she is putting herself in. With every move they make they are getting deeper and deeper into danger. As they are working closer and closer they are finally allowing their love for each other to come out. It was a great story that had the suspense of what was going to happen to Reef , but also what was going to happen to Landon and Piper's future, if anything. This was a suspense story that was a real page turner. I also loved the romance part of the story. This book is Book Two in the Alaskan Courage series. I was not able to read the first in the series Submerged, but it was not necessary because the book stands alone. If anyone is interested there is another in this series coming out soon and I am sure you will love it!

I would give this book a 5/5. I loved all parts of the story. I was given this book free by
Bethany House for a review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Here it is Our HOT Wheels Spin Shotz House Party!

We took these pictures awhile ago when we had our House Party We were going to put these up sooner but with Mommy having surgery we are really behind in our posting of pictures. We had quite a few children and parents attend but they were not comfortable with their children's pictures or theirs being put out. But, it is safe to say that they had a great time! This was a great new toy that girls as well as boys liked! We were given one to review and one to give away at our party. We were so excited to see the boy who won  the set really get excited. You would not believe some of the tricks that can be done with this.  We were given these items to review by House Party and all opinions are our own.

Hidden Under Her Heart by Rachelle Ayala a Book Review

When  I started to read Hidden Under Her Heart By Rachelle Ayala I was immediately hooked. I knew from the title that it was probably about a baby and a Mom. What I read was a story of love, courage, and growing up. I was torn between liking Lucas or Maryanne and in the end I loved both of them. There is Lucas who is trying to forget his past but who gets caught up with Maryanne and it all comes back to him. Maryanne who meets Lucas but is afraid to let him know all about her. When Maryanne finds herself in trouble Lucas still finds himself wanting to help her even though the child is not his.
Many people try to come between them but they always seem to get back together. This is the story of what abortions really do to people, before, during and after. It also touches on the subject of adoption. In the end I was crying for Maryanne, Lucas and the baby. I was happy to see that they both really learned how to love, forgive and to grow up.  It is a story that will make you see another aspect of an abortion and it's results.
I was also moved by the author's dedication to her son.   I really loved this book and I was happy to read it.     I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The Survivor by DiAnn Mills A Book Review

The Survivor by DiAnn Mills is a story with  non-stop suspense with a bit of romance thrown in. Dr. Amy Garrett is a woman who survived a horrible attack when she was a child. She has lived with the knowledge that the crime has never been solved. She finds herself wanting to tell her story in a book, and she meets Kariss Walker to talk about writing a book about her experience.  Kariss Walker is a well known suspense author and Dr. Garrett wants her to write the story for her.  The problem is that Kariss is an author who always seems to sense and find trouble.
Kariss used to be in a relationship with Special Agent Tigo Harris and he was the person she went to when she needed advice on her writing. Even though she really wants to ask him for advice, like she has in the past, she is unable to because a few months ago she felt that she had to break up with him.  It was not something that she wanted to but felt that it had to be done to protect herself from being hurt again.  Tigo and Kariss go on with their lives both missing each other. Even though Kariss is the one that has broken up with Tigo, and even though he understands why they are apart he still wants to get their relationship back. Tigo is now in the midst of trying to find a killer who has carried out a car bombing.
The more that Kariss writes Dr. Garrett's story the deeper Kariss falls into danger. Tigo has do all he can to keep the woman he still loves from the danger that is getting closer and closer. Who wants Kariss dead for writing about Dr. Garrett's childhood attack? Who cares enough to stop an unsolved case from being solved?
I really was very engrossed in this book from the moment I started to read it. There were many stories going on all at once but were deeply intertwined. First, the story of a young haunted by her past. There is also a couple trying to find their way back to each other while trying to keep the woman from getting killed. Then there is the story of an unsolved crime waiting to be solved. I really enjoyed this book from cover to cover. I was given this book for free from http://wwwBooksneeze.com  for the purpose of a review but all opinions are 100% my own.

The State of Connecticut Wants to Require All Public and Homeschooled Children be Tested for Mental Health and Behavioral Health Assessments

Where do I begin this post? I guess I will just jump right in. There is a bill right now being considered in the legislature in Connecticut, Senate Bill 374, that wants to mandate that all public school and homeschooled children be tested for mental health and behavioral issues! There is no mention of parochial and private school children. First of all this is clear discrimination against public school  and homeschooled children. The children in the public schools would be tested at grades 6, 8, 10 and 12. They  propose testing homeschooled children at ages 12, 14 & 17.  I can tell you right now, if they try to force a test on anyone I know I would advise them to sue the State. There are some who actually agree with this invasion of privacy and others who want it to start when a child first walks into school!
First, let us begin by stating that under the law a parent has the right to direct their children's education. There were many who spoke against this bill, mostly homeschooling parents. If it had not been snowing I would have gone there myself. I served 2 years on our local Town Council before I realized years later that I really felt that I should be on the local Board of Education fighting everyday for parents rights. I have believed and worked against, standardized testing, and other testing that parents do not want for their children, for over 20 years. No one,  not even the government has the right to test anyone's child without their parent's permission. I proved this when I took a complaint to the United States Department of Education and I won! If anyone were to ask me my opinion, I would tell them to sue the state if they try to test your child in secret, without your permission for anything.
This is how strongly I feel that our state and local school boards have failed our children. I served for 4 years on the local Board of Education and I am now a strong supporter of homeschooling all of our children. I am more thankful everyday that Mommy has decided to homeschool Bobo and Sissy. But, even now I find myself questioning why our so called elected leaders seem to think that they can push their ideas on everyone else. Also in Connecticut they want to pass a bill that you cannot smoke in your car if there is a child in the car. Another law that cannot not be successful. How will they enforce this bill?  Are our already understaffed policemen going to stop every car when they see someone smoking, to see if there is a child in the car? Or should  they spend their precious time solving much more hurtful crimes?  Next, they will tell us what we have to dress ourselves and our children in. Hey, isn't that what we already have in some of our public schools. I guess we really have to be more vigilant when protecting our children and raising them the way that we want to. This grandmother will never stop fighting for children and parental rights!

Let me just say that I am really upset with myself. Last week Mommy, Auntie Lala, Bobo, Sissy and I decided to go on a true kids grocery shopping trip. One of the stores near us has smaller size carriages. They were just the right size. The kids wrote their own grocery list(with a little help) and off we went. It was so much fun to watch them know exactly want they wanted and where to find it. They each like different kinds of fruit so they picked what they wanted. Sissy likes yellow cheese and Bobo likes white. Then they picked out their own yogurt. Bobo picked out a chocolate cake mix and informed anyone nearby that his mother would make it with him. Sissy wanted brownies. Then Sissy said that she did not have anymore room, so her thoughtful brother walked over and fixed her carriage. They got up to the register and decided they needed a cold drink. They put all of their items on the belt and paid with a little help from us. They put their groceries in their carts and pushed them out to the car where they loaded them to get ready to go home. It was so much fun to watch the other shoppers, mostly elderly, because we went during the day, watch them. They even told the kids how well they were doing. I am upset because I forgot my camera. We have decided that we will try to make this a weekly lesson. Math, English, reading, how to ask for items and generally how to shop. We all came home where Bobo act his yogurt and Sissy made her fruit salad with Auntie Lala. We had a wonderful Happy fun day. We cannot wait to do it again!

Blurb
Test flying an invisible plane—unreal. Time-shifting to WWII—unbelievable. Capturing a hero—unavoidable.
When Marine Corps test pilot, Captain Samantha Sheppard accidentally flies back in time and inadvertently saves the life of a WWII VMF Black Sheep pilot, she changes history and makes a crack decision to abduct him back to the present. With the timeline in jeopardy, she hides the handsome pilot at her secluded cabin in the Colorado wilderness.
But convincing her sexy, stubborn captive that he is now in another century proves harder than she anticipated—and soon it becomes difficult to tell who is captor and who is captive when the more he learns about the future, the more Sam discovers about the past, and the soul-deep connection between them.
As their flames of desire burn into overdrive, her flying Ace makes a historical discovery that threatens her family’s very existence. Sam’s fears are taken to new heights when she realizes the only way to fix the time-line is to sacrifice her captive hero...or is it?

Excerpt #4 (G)
“Phantombird VL Zero Three initiating invisibility,” she stated, another warm rush of adrenaline heating her blood.
Okay baby, her thumb hovered over the red toggle switch as she silently implored the craft, Maria and I are allergic to flames so this is no time for fireworks.
With a dry throat and sweaty palms, Sam gazed out at the sparkling blue horizon and flipped the switch.
“Did it work?” Maria asked a moment later.
“I’m not sure.” Outside, the bright blue sky took on a gray, almost smoky sheen. Odd. Sam frowned. “Command, this is Phantombi—”
A sudden intense jarring cut off her attempt to contact base and rattled the aircraft. With a tight grip on the stick, she increased their altitude, her brain seeking a reason for the jerking while she worked to regain control of their shaking craft. Only one explanation came to mind.
“That felt like…we were fired at.”
“Because we were.” Maria’s finger shook as she pointed to the radar.
Multiple green blips glared out a warning. There shouldn’t be any blips, and yet dozens of planes filled the skies seven hundred feet below.
“Who the hell is that?”
A deep male tone barked in Sam’s headset, sending shivers straight to her booted toes.
That was not Command Central.
“Mitch, Mitch, are you okay? You’re smoking,” a slightly familiar male voice blasted over the radio.
Sam’s heart stopped. The urgency in his tone bespoke concern for a comrade in battle.
“That Zero let loose, but only three rounds hit you,” the familiar voice continued.
Zero? Her pulse resumed thumping at a frantic rate. No friggin’ way!
“Are you sure, Shep? Only three? How’s that possible?” The deeper tone asked, reactivating Sam’s shivers.
“Because he hit us,” Maria answered, flipping an internal extinguisher switch to douse the sparks inside their cabin.
“Who the hell said that?” The one called Mitch barked again. “Sounded like a woman.”
Sam shook her head at Maria and, finger to throat, made a slicing motion to silence audio. They mustn’t make contact, at least, not until they figured out what in the world was going on.
“No idea,” Shep replied to Mitch. “But the Zero shot at you and half of his bullets stopped in mid air.”
“Okay, Shep.” Mitch’s voice changed into a calm, take-charge tone. “You need to shake of this dementia. Are you feeling all right? Dizzy? The Zeroes are still out here, buddy. Buck it up before you end up in the drink.”
shep? Dementia? Drink? Sam swallowed the hysterical laughter bubbling up her throat. Okay, Sammie, you can wake up now. Her gaze traveled to her copilot. Maria jabbed a finger at the radio.
“I swear, Sam, if Hanson and Daughtry are playing tricks, I’m going to have their asses for lunch.”
“I—I don’t think it is.” She shook her head, unable to voice her crazy notion one of those men was her dead grandfather.
“You should fly to Torokina while you’re still capable, Captain.” Concern deepened Shep’s tone. “You’re really starting to smoke now.”
As if on cue, dark gray plumes billowed up from below. Trepidation pinched Sam’s shoulders. Not good. She tipped the Phantombird to obtain a better view, and promptly stopped breathing.
“This can’t be…”
Maria’s sharp intake confirmed otherwise. “Holy friggin’ shit.”
Sam’s mind worked feverishly to rationalize the battle-ravaged scene below. Corsairs, bullets, smoke, and Mitsubishi Reisens with unmistakable red circles painted on the sides and wings filled the sky.
“Dammit, Mitchell!”
The fear vibrating in Shep’s voice startled Sam from her shock.
“Quit being such a stubborn ass. You’d better land before December 28th, 1943 turns into your last day on this earth.”
Cool air funneled into Sam’s lungs until it backed up and lodged in her throat. She coughed. “Oh my God!” Reality hit hard and squeezed her chest. “What have we done?”
One of the smoking Corsairs broke away and took a northeast heading. She consulted the radar and noted several points of land in that area.
“What, Sam?” Maria asked, alarm lifting her tone. “What’s wrong?”
Sam expelled her breath and slowly turned to face her copilot. A pair of dark rounded eyes stared back. Through her grandfather’s tales, Sam knew who survived the war and who didn’t…
“We just changed history.”

Night Owl Reviews-Reviewer Top Pick!
“Ms. Michaels has outdone herself yet again by writing another story in which her readers can't help but fall in love with her characters. I loved that Marine Pilot Captain Samantha Sheppard was a tough, no-nonsense kind of woman who was smart and could kick anyone's butt if need be. I loved seeing that she was a dominant female when the situation called for it, but Sam also had a deep, tender side to her as well. This is another great story by Ms. Michaels that I enjoyed from cover to cover and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book to be released in this Time-shift Heroes series. Well done!”--Diana Coyle, Book Reviewer

“Loved this book! ‘Captive Hero’ is my first e-read...I'm hooked, both on the format and the concept. Sam makes a wonderful heroine, and I loved the romantic story line, the time-travel aspect, and the wicked plot twists. Donna Michaels had me turning e-pages as quickly as possible to find out what happened next...I couldn't put it down. Michaels has it ALL. Take a strong, creative plot, add in terrific characterization in the form of smart, sexy and determined heroines and a to-die-for hero, toss in great dialogue and use of World War II-era slang, along with insight into the psychology of a 20th century hero with an incredible sense of duty and honor who is forcibly transported into the 21st century...it all adds up to a can't-miss read. Looking forward with anticipation to the next book in the series!”--Kitty

“What a fantastic story!!! Hot, strong hero and a just as strong female. The beginning of the book when Sam and Mitch first interact is a hoot and I love Sam's thoughts in response to Mitch's strong-arm tactics and it is great when he learns how powerful a female Marine can be. The romance is great and stirring. I was expecting one twist and was shocked when the twist occurred and it was an unexpected one; I actually cried along with Sam (and I don't do that with most books). Even the end kept me guessing. I am now anxiously waiting for Maria's story to be published; she was one of the great characters in the book whose banter with Sam was quite funny.”--Texasrn

About the Author
I live in Northeast PA where we experience all four seasons, although, I wouldn’t mind hanging onto summer a bit more and winter a bit less. I’m married to a career military man; we have four wonderful children, and an assortment of rescued cats. Never a dull moment in my household!
As for my writing, I am multi-published in eBook and print. I write from sweet to hot, short to epic and anything in between. You can find the ratings and length next to the book on my website. I have fourteen titles and one Free read through The Wild Rose Press, one title with Whimsical Publications, and just recently, I released my very first self-publication-Captive Hero.
I love to write a damaged hero where something happened in his past to mark him. They’re my favorite kind to read, too. A mixture of vulnerability and a strong backbone are a must for my heroines. She usually has a decent wit, too. My books contain humor, some more than others, and most have a protagonist with a military background. Thanks to my husband, my real-life hero.

The Great UGLEE Pen Review and Giveaway

These pens have wonderful attributes for almost anyone who writes. It is helpful to anyone like myself, who has carpal tunnel. Sometimes people that have arthritis are unable to put their fingers around a pen. This would certainly help them.I even think that it would be a great tool to help any child that is just starting to write. It is actually rubbery with ridges to grip it easier. I used to be a waitress when my kids were small, I would have loved one of these! I have seen the little rubber things that you can put onto a pencil or pen to help someone write, whether just beginning or a person that has been writing for a long time. This pen is much better because they cannot slip and it cover s the whol part of the pen where anyone would grip. I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers a Rafflecopter giveaway

Review of The Christmas Plains By Joseph Bottum

The Christmas Plains by Joseph Bottum is a sheer joy to read. It was a pleasure from the first page to the last. Mr. Bottum takes a collection of stories and makes them shine. Through his collection of short stories we get to meet some of the people who lived without all of the conveniences we have today, yet still lived sometimes wonderful, sometimes unbelievably hard, horrible lives. One of the stories is about a young couple living on a ranch. Just as a blizzard hits the Plains their furnace breaks down and their baby gets sick. They have to make a decision that will either save all of them or none of them. While the author's great-aunt is telling the story he is wondering why she is telling him this story. The couple with their baby set off during the blizzard to get their child to safety even though the nearest doctor was about 50 miles away. It took them 5 hours to get there. The author's great-aunt went on to explain that parents will do anything for their child. He begins to think about the words, parent, child, child, God. The birth of Jesus and what Christmas really means. He writes about the all of the wonderful books he gets at Christmas and he even writes about the delicious food. The stories tell about his childhood, Christmas memories and those memories  which his daughter is now receiving. Through all of these stories he brings us through we begin to realize that the true meaning of Christmas is, all of our memories wrapped together, even the simplest of all of them. I was given this book for free by the Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Company. If you would like more information about this book you can find it here, http://www.randomhouse.com/book/221642/the-Christmas-Plains-by-Joseph-Bottum.  Sometimes readers like to read the first chapter in a book or want to know more about the author.
