Valentine's Day is a special holiday in our family. When my children were small I used to get them a card that said Happy Valentine's Day to My Daughter or one that said, Happy Valentine's To My Son on Valentine's Day. I have 3 girls and 1 boy and they all got a different card from their Dad and I.  Then I attached a small candy heart.  Treat.com is a wonderful way to get creative so that everyone gets their own personal card, just for them.  There are cards for every occasion.  I truly believe that everyone who gets a card from them will be so excited. I was given a card to try  but all opinions are my own.

Another Reason to Homeschool

It has been so cold these past couple of days.  Just another reason why we are glad that Mommy is homeschooling Bobo and Sissy. As I said earlier this week Mommy had to have emergency surgery so Mommy's sisters and I had to help around the house. We did not have to worry about running around and especially we were able to devote our time to helping Mommy.  Last year Bobo got sick because it was so cold out and he had to go to school.  The schools do not understand that closing schools for below 5 degrees is just as important as closing the schools for snow. Our children have to wait for the buses, walk to school and try to stay warm.  Many of them are not lucky to get into a warmed up car.

Secrets of a Dangerous Woman by p.m. terrell Book Review

Secrets of a Dangerous Woman
 by p.m. terrell

p.m. terrell is the award-winning, internationally acclaimed author of more than 16 books in four genres: paranormal romantic suspense, suspense/thriller, historical adventure/suspense and non-fiction. Vicki's Key, the second book in the Black Swamp Mysteries series, was a finalist in the 2012 International Book Awards (one of only five in the mystery/suspense category) and River Passage won the 2010 Best Drama & Fiction Award. She has been a full-time writer for more than ten years. Previously, she founded and operated two computer companies; her clients included the CIA, Secret Service and Department of Defense. Her work in detecting computer white collar crime and computer intelligence inspired many of her books. She is an avid dog lover and advocate for animal rights and founded the New Leash on Life program in Robeson County, NC, which rescues dogs and places them in the prison system for obedience training and adoption. She also co-founded The Book 'Em Foundation, whose slogan is Buy a Book and Stop a Crook; their mission is to raise awareness of the correlation between high crime rates and high illiteracy rates. She co-chairs the Book 'Em North Carolina Writers' Conference and Book Fair each year in Lumberton, NC, which raises money for literacy campaigns in our communities.

Genre: Suspense
Publisher: Drake Valley Press
Release Date: September 2012
Buy: Amazon | Kindle

Irishman Dylan Maguire is back in Secrets of a Dangerous Woman, reuniting with psychic spy Vicki Boyd. In his first mission with the CIA, he must interrogate recently captured Brenda Carnegie. But when she escapes again, it's obvious she's had help from within the CIA's own ranks. With Vicki Boyd's psychic assistance, Brenda is back in his custody again. And now he must find out why some in the highest branches of government want her dead - and others will risk everything to help her. And when he discovers her true identity, his mission has just become very personal.

Excerpt:

#1:
Brenda was taller than her sister. His chest touched her back as he leaned on the door, her hair brushing against his face and flowing downward nearly to the top of his jeans. She smelled of Vicki’s shampoo and Vicki’s perfume.
Where the bloody hell do you think you’re goin’?” Dylan said.
She didn’t answer but continued facing the door.
Put the gun down, Red,” he said calmly.
Since you remember me,” she said, still with her back against him, “you know I didn’t have a gun.”
I know that you’ve got me gun in your right hand. And I know as soon as you turn around, that gun is goin’ to be pointed at me chest.”
Let me go, Irish. Don’t make me shoot you.”
There are two things I won’t be allowin’ to happen. First, you’re not gonna shoot me with me own gun. And second, they won’t be catchin’ you with me gun on you. They won’t be tracin’ you back to me.”
She remained motionless and he could almost hear her mind racing. “I’m bad news, Irish. You and I both know it. It’s better this way.”
It’s better that you stay here. You’re safe here.”
What are you saying?”
I think I just said it.”
I’m turning around,” she said after a moment’s hesitation. “And I’m handing you the gun.”
He moved slightly away from the door, dropping his arms from around her head as she turned around. He took the gun from her hand and set it on the kitchen table beside them.
I wish I’d met you before Vicki did. We would have been good together.”
His eyes followed her jawline, her full lips, a slightly wide, upturned nose, her high cheekbones, and a mountain of copper hair a man could get lost in. Then his eyes moved to her perfect brows, one raised slightly, coquettishly, before stopping to peer into her mesmerizing amber eyes. “We would have been dangerous together.”

My review;  This is a great book in an even better series.  It is hard to find a book that has an equal combination of suspense, romance, paranormal and is a fast moving thriller. Vicki and Dylan are working together again, for the CIA. Dylan has been given his next target and he is very torn when he realizes just how close it is to both of them. It quickly becomes personal. He must find out why his new target is someone who some people want dead and someone who others will do anything for. With Vicki using her pyschic abilities they will set out to find out the truth. I really loved this book. It had a little bit of everything that makes the kind of book that you can't put down.   I was given this book to review for this tour. All opinions are 100% my own.

Giveaway – Gift Basket of goodies from the town of Lumberton where the Black Swamp Mysteries series is based (picture coming soon), to one lucky commenter from tour.

Teaching Moment Watching the Inauguration

Yesterday we spent the day watching the Presidential Inauguration with Bobo and Sissy. They really liked the singing , the parade and all of the excitement. They really did not like the speeches. We talked about being American and being able to vote, which was what we talked about on election day.  Sissy asked why some were wearing red coats in the parade so we explained what that meant. It was a thrilling moment when they got out during the parade and walked a short distance.  Mommy and her sisters and brother were taught from an early age how important it was to vote because I have held 2 elected offices. We took them into the voting machine and showed them how to vote. They also were excited to see their Mommy's name on the machine. The day each of them turned 18 we went to town hall and registered to vote.
I watched the different Balls after and on a personal note, The First Lady's gown was pretty but I am not sure that I think it was an appropriate choice.  I actually think that it was not the kind of event that a First Lady should wear this type of gown.  But, it is my personal feeling.  I thought that it was not demure enough for me. I do not remember any other First Lady dressing like this. Maybe, I am just old-fashioned. Oh no, I never thought I would say that, only my parents were not me.   Nana

The Happy Endings Giveaway Hop was organized by Reading Romances
When I was 16 I got my first job at a grocery store. In those days produce had to be weighed before they were bought there because there were no scales up front. They was a guy about my age who worked in the produce department. He used to say hi when he went on break. Now this part has gone done in history in our family. One night a customer brought a up package of bananas without a price. I went into the produce room and asked him to weigh my bananas for me. He answered, "I would  do anything for you." The rest is history , we got married when we were 18 and 19 had 4 children, 3 grandchildren and were married almost 40 years when he passed away a few years ago.

Very Busy Week

Well we have had a really busy week. Sunday night Daddy had to take Mommy to the hospital for an emergency Gallbladder operation. We have all been trying to help her because she is unable to lift over 10 pounds and she has a really boring diet.  Bobo and Sissy were upset because Mommy had never been away from them (except when Bobo was little to have Sissy). Mommy never got to explain that she had to go to the hospital. Take goodness we have a large family to help out. Nana.

Amazon * Barnes & Noble * Christian Book

Excerpt

The Kiss by the River:

The girl did not stir when Eanrin lifted her into his arms; her sleep was profound indeed. Her head lolled over his arm, and he was obliged to part her thick hair to uncover her face. It was an uncommonly beautiful face for a mortal.
However, this girl’s beauty was different from any he had ever before seen. For one thing, her skin was rich dark brown, and her hair glossy black. For another, she was imperfect. Her teeth, visible between gently parted lips, were a little crooked. Mud stained her skin, making it darker still, and her brow, even in sleep, was puckered with anxiety or fear. Her dreams must be wicked indeed.
Eanrin grimaced at the sight and almost put her down again. After all, a princess with dreams like those probably had a tale of woe to match. She would certainly wake with expectations of a handsome hero to aid her. As far as Eanrin was concerned, a dash of heroism was one thing, but commitment to a cause? Never. Rushing off to the rescue of Lady Gleamdren was different, for he had determined that she must be his wife and the sole inspiration to his life’s work. Besides, he loved her.
This creature meant nothing to him.
But blood oozed from the abrasions on her wrists. And her body, mortal and vulnerable, lay in his arms. Eanrin rolled his eyes heavenward as though to seek some holy aid. Then he braced himself and wiped the mud off her lips with the edge of his cloak. She frowned in her sleep and stirred, but did not wake.
“Nothing for it,” he muttered. Closing his eyes and trying not to smell her any more than he must, he leaned in and kissed her . . .

Learning How to Crochet a Blanket

Here are some photos during a lesson of Mommy and Sissy learning how to crochet and then set up a pattern. This was an excuse to learn adding and subtracting, making different patterns, and deciding which way she wanted it. This is how she decided the way that she wanted the blanket to look. Bobo counted them and the different colors but like other typical boys he didn't really care about patterns. Maybe he is color blind like his Uncle and his Grandfather. Or maybe he thinks that it is a girl thing.

An Angel by Her Side by Ruth Reid Book Review

I just finished reading a book called An Angel by Her Side by Ruth Reid, another book in her series called A Heaven On Earth. This book is about overcoming tragedy, loss and heartbreak.
Kate Bender has suffered a horrible loss, her fiance has died tragically in an accident and she has given up on ever finding love again. Kate is practical but she is also heartbroken. After the accident she was able realize her teaching abilities and begins to teach in her small settlement.  When yet another set back occurs and the schoolhouse is destroyed by a tornado, she is left with the task of what she was going to do to be able to find work and support herself.
A few days before the storm Seth Stutzman arrived in Hope Falls. When the tornado hit he helped the children and Kate to reach safety. Amos who is Seth's brother is trying to get over the death of his wife and Seth has come to help him. He has no time to even think about Kate.
Everyone comes together to help rebuild their town and Kate and Seth begin to work near each other. During their hard work each of their hearts  begin to wrestle with their feelings for each other. The mighty Angel Elias comes to them as a mysterious new person. The Angel Elias has sworn to protect what God has ordained. He slowly begins to show Seth and Kate how to have the courage and the strength to find the love and the life that they were meant to have.
This book was truly a wonderful example of getting over tragedies that no one should have to endure. It is truly with the help of a very special Angel that they are finally able to realize their love for each other.
I really loved the book and I love the series that this author has begun.   I was given this book to review by Booksneeze. All opinions are 100% my own.

Escucha Means Listen

From the mowing of the lawn to the splish-splashing of rain puddles, Talia Aikens-Nuñez’s bilingual picture book Escucha Means Listen introduces toddlers and babies to the sweet sounds around them.

Take a journey through the world—just listening. Escucha Means Listen helps children discover sounds around them in English and Spanish.

Las abejas (The bees) circling the flowers.

Woosh. Woosh. What do you hear?

Shh. Shh. Qué oyes? (What do you hear?)
Las hojas (The leaves) are dancing on the trees.
                                          My Review:

I was very happy to get a chance to read this book. I enjoyed not only thinking about words in a different language but also associating the words with different sounds. As a Grandmother of 2 children that are being homeschooled I am very happy to tell other parents as well as teachers that this is a great book to read to all children and babies.   I was given this book to read by the author and I Am A Read Not A Writer. All opinions are 100% my own.

A Sort Update on What's Going On!

Well the holidays are over but next week we have another party. It is Mommy's little sister http://dealsharingaunt.blogspot.com birthday on January 12th. Bobo and Sissy are still learning more and more each day, Sissy has been going to dancing school for a few years now. She came home the other day after class and told us that she has to wear her hair up because it is getting so long. She was really upset because she has been trying to grow long hair like Rapunzel.
Bobo and Sissy are getting very good at the computer and the i-pad.  I always thought the day would come when they would want to use the computer but I never thought that we would all be timed, for each of our turns.
I knew that sooner or later it was going to happen, I was going to start using coupons again. This weekend it some towns there were up to 6 coupon inserts. In our town there were 5! I am not really sure how anyone could pass up these savings. I guess I do have another New Year's Resolution after all.

My One New Year's Resolution

I find it very hard to believe if not totally unbelievable that another year has past. With every new year people always seem to make resolutions and then break them. So, I have decided not to make any resolution except for one. I am going to be excited about new experiences, follow new ideas and help my family members.  I learned a few years ago that you make each day the best that you can. I would like to wish everyone a safe and healthy New Year. Nana
